Description

The listing, Make mom's garden better then the rest! Banana Lotus. Gift Wrapped! has ended.

Cultivated since antiquity, this rare dwarf banana is considered the most precious of sacred flowers by the Dai and Bulang Buddhist ethnic minorities of China’s Southern Yunnan province. It represents the embodiment of charm and kindness. While actively cultivated, it is believed to be extinct in the wild. The plant gets its name from the large yellow upright flower produced from the top of the leafless pseudostem. Flowering lasts for 6 to 9 months. The plant is a natural dwarf, reaching 4 to 6 feet high. Unlike other bananas, the Golden Lotus Banana will thrive in areas with a distinct winter season. They are hardy to USDA climate zone 7 and possibly to zones 5 and 6.

This Auction is for 5 seeds. These seeds are not easy to find. nor cheap. They cost around 1 to 2 dollars a piece, PLUS your are going to pay $5 to $15 in shipping.

Gin bonus is 10 seeds!! 25 Rose of Sharon :)

This rare and extinct in the wild banana lotus is one of the most adored plants in all of the world.

Once it blooms it can actually be cut off and survive for a full month without water on display. They bloom for over six months at a time if left intact. This does not produce banana's:)
Worshipped by the monks in China these plants actually have shrines built for them.

The picture with the dragons and all of the yellow flowers(banana lotus) is a shrine in China dedicated to these flowers!

I will have these gift boxed and ready to go. This is a short auction so that you get them in time :)

This is called Musella Lasiocarpa. It is called A BANANA LOTUS! I was in china visitng a monk temple (where they worship the banana lotus), MUSELLA (they are in the banana family). They are extinct in the wild and far more rare then a "lotus". So the name of these plants are banana lotus. Please let me know if I am wrong. I have no idea why on earth you chose to post such a rude comment. You could have simply worded it a nice way. You my dear are rude. Thank you for stopping by and have a great day. I actually grow "lotus" flowers and sell them as well. They cost less if you are intersted :)

Product Description
Musella lasiocarpa is a banana relative that comes from high altitudes, to frosty 2800 meters in the Yunnan, province in China. Local names for the plant translate as "yellow lotus emerge from the earth" or "yellow lotus of the earth mother". The maximum height of the plant is only about 4-5 feet tall.

This rare, hardy Chinese banana is grown for its bright yellow, long-lasting upright flowers, which may last up to 9 months; very showy. The flower appears in its second year, and grows upright at the top of the trunk. It does produce outstanding grey-green banana foliage and it does not produce a fruit.

Hardiness zones 7-10 (-15°C/5°F,1°C/35°F) in Winter. This banana has a greater tolerance for colder climates. It will flourish in all climates from cool tropical down to temperate, where it will be found to be root hardy, enduring even cold Winters with its underground rhizome.

Somewhat slow growth habit makes it ideal for smaller locations or indoors in colder zones. Musella appreciates soil that is fertile, well drained and rich in organic material. Provide heavy watering, feeding and a place in full sun to partial shade.

Additional Information
Germination
The seed require cool stratification for 6-8 weeeks, but then germinates easily, usually 1-2 months. Use well draining soil mixture with 25% coarse sand added to it. Plant 3/4" deep. Keep warm and damp. Require bright light and hight humidity. Fertilize monthly.
Scarification / Stratification
This will break their dormancy. It creates a cold and moist environment for the seeds. Mixed in seeds with slightly moistened vermiculite or peat, only damp in a ziplock bag. Close zip bag shut and store it in the salad crisper compartment of your refrigerator. If any seeds begin to sprout during the cold stratification, simply remove the seed and plant.
