Description

The listing, Navajo Sunset Orange and Jojoba Beaded Necklace 70s has ended.

This necklace was one of a large batch purchased in 1975 from Nellie Begay, a Navajo artisan living in Window Rock, Arizona. I ordered them from her when I was traveling to Germany and knew a jeweler there. We intended to sell them in his store, but through unforeseen circumstances the jeweler could not complete the purchase and I was left with several hundred necklaces that wound up in my mother's storage shed for many years. When she died in 2011 at 91, I started slowly sorting through things again.

This is one of the last dozen or so that I have left. It boasts sunset-orange colored seed beads with genuine jojoba accents. A few clear/yellow colored spacer beads accent the piece, which is approximately 26" in circumference if you don't include the sunburst pendant. The sunburst itself is nearly 4" in diameter.

Shipping is FREE in the US with First Class tracking. Once you provide your verified address (Listia rules apply) then I will ship out your item on the next postal day and give you the tracking number that same evening. You'll always know when your item will arrive.

Thank you for viewing my listing, and happy bidding.

Naw! LOVE the "her-story!" otherwise known as history of this Navajo necklace! It is SO special to be hand made by Nellie Begay! I suggest you hit that edit button Kathleen78 and put "made by Navajo artist Nellie Begay" in the heading so that people will catch the auction--I just happened to catch it--lots of Native American art/jewelry collectors her on listia!

You can call me Katy if you like; most people do. I think it's 1000 characters that you can have in a single post. Lol, yep, when you think about it, us young people back in the 60s-70s really did make a difference. We ended the war a lot sooner than it would have been. I wish the young people today had the belief in themselves that we had in ourselves. We really believed we could end the war, and we did. If the kids had our optimism, I think they could change the word again. (Course, some of us grew up to be the people in Congress now, lol...maybe that's why the young don't realize just how much good we did back then.)

LOL, yeah, they just took the map of downtown Glendale. We're on the outskirts. I think they showed the map of 85301, which is central Glendale. I'd say we're about 10 miles from there now. We moved into the city 4 years ago; we were more rural before. But I like the city; I still have a garden. Right now there's lettuce, carrots, beets, swiss chard, radishes, green onions and rosemary still growing like crazy. Those things will grow through the winter, and then in late February I'll be able to put out the tomatoes. Can't wait.

Darn, I don't think I can change the titles now. But I'll remember that for next time; I have a few more of hers to put up after Christmas.
