Description

The listing, Crimson and White Navajo Jojoba Necklace 70s has ended.

This necklace was one of a large batch purchased in 1975 from Nellie Begay, a Navajo living in Window Rock, Arizona. I ordered them from her when I was traveling to Germany and knew a jeweler there. We intended to sell them in his store, but through unforeseen circumstances the jeweler could not complete the purchase and I was left with several hundred necklaces that wound up in my mother's storage for many years.

I'm just starting to weed through all her things, as well as the things that she stored for me decades ago. It's a slow process; I had to transfer the stuff from her huge pile to my garage when she passed on, and it's hard for me, at my age, to get motivated to look through everything. I've finally decided to get a few things going.

This is one of the last dozen or so that I have left of genuine Nellie Begay necklaces. It boasts crimson colored seed beads with genuine jojoba accents. The color is deeper and richer than the scanner shows. A few white spacer beads accent the piece, which is approximately 24" in circumference if you don't include the sunburst pendant. The sunburst itself is approximately 3.5" in diameter.

Shipping is FREE in the US with First Class tracking. Once you provide your verified address (Listia rules apply) then I will ship out your item on the next postal day and give you the tracking number that same evening. You'll always know when your item will arrive.

Thank you for viewing my listing, and happy bidding.

Thanks, buster. Please know that while I'm sure that many are authentic native American (as this one is, for certain) not all of them may be. I don't know enough about most of them to say anything for sure. Mom loved to go up to Navajo country and get things, but she got things just because she liked them. She never got anything verified or authenticated. And me, well, I was never interested. Even this one, the only interest I had in it was making money, and I thought that would work out with the German connection. When it didn't, I never thought about it again. In my old age, I'm beginning to appreciate the beauty of these things, but I'm not a jewelry person. I think the last time I wore a piece of jewelry, ie, earrings, rings, necklaces, etc, was two or three years ago.

I wish I had asked Mom more about these pieces while she was alive, but I didn't. I just don't want to lead anyone astray. This necklace and the orange one are the only ones I know from personal knowledge are authentic Native American. While most of the others very probably are, I want to distance myself from making any claims on them, just to avoid disappointing anyone if Mom happened to buy one from a non-native. Thanks so much for all your help in figuring this out. I'm learning so much from these auctions, and the next time I put something like this up, I'm sure going to word them better. Live and learn. I'll have more up later this month. :)
