I'm the one that grabbed one of this with a GIN, it was shipped quickly and works great, these are good for working with small circuit boards, I use mine mainly for RC helicopters and ham radio, the Solder that comes with this is great solder, it has a fairly low melting point and it hardens to a shine creating a very strong solder connection.

I don't know much about soldering irons. I do use the same kind at home. I doubt if it gets hot enough to melt silver or gold. It is mostly for light-duty soldering. I used mine to repair a remote control.
