Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument in Wiltshire, England, built anywhere from 3000 BC to 2000 BC. The arrangement of the stones suggests that Stonehenge was used as a religious center and also as an astronomical observatory. It was also used as a burial ground. Modern-day Pagans revere the site. The site was a place of religious significance and pilgrimage in Neo-Druidry. A druid was a member of the priestly class among the Celtic peoples of Gaul, Britain, Ireland, and possibly elsewhere during the Iron Age. Very little is known about the ancient druids.

Julius Caesar claimed that the sacrifice was primarily of criminals, but at times innocents would also be used, and that they would be burned alive in a large wooden effigy, now often known as a wicker man.
