The listing, 1887 Edition of Hans Brinker or The Silver Skates by Mary Mapes Dodge (Needs Some TLC) has ended.
This auction is for the 1887 Scribner's Edition of Hans Brinker or The Silver Skates, A Story of Life in Holland written by Mary Mapes Dodge with 60 original illustrations. There is no dust cover.
There is even an inscription from a Cousin Annie to Bernice dated 1887.
The book ,as you can see in the picture above, is coming apart. It needs to be rebound or restitched or whatever they do to fix that and maybe a little conservation work on the edges of the cover and top and bottom of the spine. All of the pages are present as far as I can tell. I think it might be worth the trouble for your own satisfaction if not the value of the book.
The cover itself still has the coloring on the letters and the cover illustration, (you really can't tell from the awful picture above). The board of the cover is not bent (other than the corners) Kind of surprising for a 126 year old book. There are colored and black and white illustrations in the book (see pictures). The colored illustrations are still vibrant even though the pages are yellowing.
I would really like this book to go to someone who can take care of it the way it should be taken care of and appreciate it for what it is so I will start the bidding at 0.
**Please note that the above pictures are a combination of my atrocious photography skills and my scanner, the pages are not quite either color, they are the color of 123 year old yellowing paper.
