This cartridge has been tested and works great on my system. I did have to blow in it a little bit but it worked fine after that. However, I am selling it as is with no guarantee.

This is the first one, correct? And, do you happen to know if it has the battery problem that keeps you from saving current progress?

I believe this is the first one. I don't believe there is a save option at all for this game. When I start it up I get a screen with "Tournament" and "Options" choices and then it just starts the game from there. Unless there is something I'm missing I don't think there is a save game option at all.
