Questions & Comments
Re: your comment "Anime is what westerners call Japanese animation. Japanese do not call their animation anime, they call it animation."
That's not...entirely true. "Anime" is common Japanese slang/shortening of "animation". Japanese people use both terms for cartoons or animation, regardless if it's of Japanese origin or not. (For example, you can find stories on upcoming Disney movies in the anime magazines in Japan, described as "Disney's new anime film!".) So "Anime" is not a Western-made term, we just use it as a describer for animation that originated in Japan. "Japanimation" was a Western-made term back before anime was more widely available, but most people find it outdated now.
Yes. Semantics. Thanks for reminding me I should have added that in. It still just means animation to Japanese people, much the same way we call all animation cartoons they do call it anime.
Yes fox 4kids is indeed an American company and my description does note this version, which is not to be mistaken for the fox one, has Chinese and original Japanese language audio with English subtitles.
You are assuming this is that awful fox 4kids version. As I said before this not the 4kids version. This version contains complete uncut and unedited unaired episodes. It is of Korean origin from a manufacturer called fx. I did not say they were bad subs just not very good it is due to the fact they were translated from Japanese to Mandarin and then to English.
if it is originally asian dvds then what is the region for the discs? because I have noticed a big influx of dvd imports being sold lately on here that have the wrong region and we cant even watch it.
Aren't all dvds technically Asian since that's where they are all made? In answer to your question this is NTSC and will work in American dvd player. I have watched them in my dvd player, my laptop, and at 2 of my friends' places.
well dvds started in the usa so did animation only after the us made cartoons did japan start making anime but they dident want to call it japanimation do to that being steriotipic so the usa allowed them to take the term anime and the usa kept cartoons thats why you dont see as much anime in the usa
I paid over $100 for these plus shipping from Korea back in the early 2000's It was difficult to find anything anime related then. Frankly I am not impressed with the quality of the content, but I have to say they look seriously badass on my shelf.
