Description

The listing, STRATTON ENGLISH COMPACT VERY VINTAGE FIVE COMPARTMENTS has ended.

This is a Stratton Compact that my late mother used to use many decades ago. It has not been cleaned. I did not wish to destroy the patina, so please be aware that it will arrive with the dust and grime of age. I'll leave cleaning to the person who buys this, in order to preserve the finish.

It has five compartments inside. One small circular one and four others that radiate outward from the inner circle. One is larger than the rest, but all are fairly small. The compact is 3" in diameter and has no mirror. The outside is graced with decorative flowers on the front and the back has the Stratton logo and the "Made in England" mark.

Please remember that this will arrive uncleaned. The finish is not in new condition; there are a few blemishes due to age, but it is still very beautiful. The compact is very sturdy and appears in good working order. Please check the pictures. The scanner makes the red appear almost pink, but that isn't true; this is a deep, rich burgundy red with lovely flowers. If you google "vintage Stratton compact" you'll find a few of this era, and they command decent prices.

Mom used this to store blush powder, regular powder and such. It is made of a nice finished metal and weighs 2.2 ounces on my postal scale. I'm continuing to clean out boxes from my garage, whenever I get the energy, and finding some lovely things of hers. My mother died in 2011 at 91.

Shipping is free through first class mail, securely wrapped and sent in a Tyvek mailer, to any part of the U.S. I'll upload the tracking number within 24 hours of receiving your verified address (as long as the PO is open that day.) Listia rules apply. Thank you for viewing my listing.

Thank you. Yes, I think it's beautiful, but I've never used powder in my life and now I just feel I'm too old to start. :)

By the way, the picture of the inside does not do it justice. I tried to get my scanner to show it but since I can't lay it flat, the scanner won't pick it up. I just want to mention that it looks better inside than it shows. :)

I know my mother well enough that it could not be later than 1960s, and possibly much earlier. She stopped wearing powder and blush once she hit her 50s. (I think that's when she stopped chasing boys, lol.) She was born in 1920.

By the way, I googled a few similar ones and they were from the 40s, but I don't want to commit myself by saying for sure this is of that era. I don't know enough to say it's 40s for sure.

It doesn't list you as a fan, Leah, but thank you for your kind comment. :)
