Jamaican sorrel, also know as hibiscus, is recognized for naturally occurring substances such as flavonoids, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and immune-building properties. The herb is a member of the oxalis family and is associated with the prevention of diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and cancer, according to an article that was published in April 2002 in Newsbrief, a publication of the Scientific Research Council public education unit. Jamaican sorrel is often made into a cold drink or an herbal tea by pouring a cup of boiling water over the dried herb, allowing it to steep for five minutes, straining and then drinking it immediately.

I think it is the same one that I am looking for. Does it grow up to 7-8 ft? I live in Zone 7B. Do you think I can grow it and harvest it in time bef the frost? It will probably be an annual in my place. What zone are you in? Thanks for your reply.

In the stores you see Hibiscus Tea. Is this the plant they use to make their hibiscus tea?

I guess living in zone 6 wouldn't give the plant enough time to mature, would it?
