After focusing on side characters and comedy for several episodes, the filmmakers return to the struggle against Naraku. The Faceless Man pursuing Kagome is actually Onigumo, the thief Kikyo tended 50 years earlier--who shares a vital relationship with Naraku. After an indecisive duel with Onigumo, Inu-Yasha confronts Naraku and learns that the arch-fiend also has a monthly time of weakness. But unlike Inu-Yasha, Naraku can control the day on which it falls and emerges from each period of vulnerability stronger than before. Determined to learn how to break Naraku's demonic barrier, Inu-Yasha visits the addled sword smith Totosai. Bunza, a diminutive lynx-demon, is also trying to learn the barrier-shattering technique. Inu-Yasha reveals the rarely seen gentle side of his nature as he aids Bunza, even though it doesn't help him learn the sought-after technique.
