The listing, ***Auction Watchers Event*** 2 Vintage Civil War Era Checks from Virg. City, Nev. Terr. has ended.
I put these under 'stamps' because both have U.S. Internal Revenue stamps affixed to them.
The first check is dated Jan. 20th 1861 (looks like) from The Agency of the Bank of California, pay to Supt. or Bearer Fifty Dollars. Check has an orange 2 cent Wash. Internal Revenue Tax stamp on it. Check is from Virginia City, Nevada Territory (before it was a state).
Second check dated Sept. 11th 1863 also from Vir. City is Paxton & Thornburgh, Bankers pay to C.G. Fink (I guess) or bearer One hundred Dollars. Check has a blue 2 cent Wash. Internal Revenue Bank Check stamp on it.
I tried researching these on the Internet using any names I could read and dates, or places but, got nowhere. If anyone feels like trying and finds anything out, please let me hear from you!
****Gin Bonus**** If GIN is used I will add a third check from Virginia City dated Apr. 7th 1891 Wells Fargo & Co. San Francisco pay to Livingston & Co. Two hundred thirty-eight and 50/00 dollars.
Checks will be shipped in separate plastic sleeves.
Anyone and everyone please click on 'Watching' as I am trying to get 100 auction watchers badge!
I don't really know anything about the checks because I found them in a scrap book that was bought at a yard sale over 25 years ago.
