The listing, Lovely, Antique Pill Box has ended.

This is a very lovely antique pill box, very unique, The poodle has one little crystal or setting in eye, leather backing, in really nice condition. I have not cleaned this, left it as found.
Opens and closes perfectly, a nice conversation piece. Age unknown. Very unique. Found this cute little piece at an estate sale. In very good condition. Of course there is a little wear as shown in pic. #4.

This item looks more like it would be a travel ashtray. Pill boxes back then, were much fancier, and usually have some kind of Victorian look to them.

LOL =D I'm long outbidden on this; but it is nice. If it still smells like stale cigarettes, it was probably a travel ashtray. People usually just wiped them out before they used them again. They weren't supposed to be actually washed.

Yes this is a ash tray. I have one that my grandmother gave me. you can tell that's what it is by the handle. It's 1930's. F&w

I have one of these with a
different design on the front and it is definitely an ashtray. Mine has a little pop up piece where you can rest your cigarette. Yours may be missing this piece, or just may have been made without it. Nice piece of vintage smoking collectible...

Yes, it is Precious and love the poodle and the fact that you can picture an elegant 50s lady smoking at a party and pulling this out to ash into... when smoking was still elegant. Thank you so much for sharing with your fellow Listians! Watching for sure!

wow... great auction and now I wonder myself. I have a brass box kind of around the same size (just a bit bigger) with a frog in one corner. I always thought it might be a pill box but it just seemed a bit too big. I am gonna have to look into it more now to see if it is actually an travel ashtray... however, I don't think it ever had a handle so I wonder if they ever made them without handles.
