The listing, Large Eagle in Flight shell/mother of pearl necklace very vintage has ended.
This stunning piece is approximately 24" in circumference and is accented by a beautiful shell or mother of pearl eagle (at least that's what I think it is) spreading her wings. The eagle's wingspan is about 2.5" wide and the necklace boasts brilliant colored beads in turquoise and white. The metal chain is very sturdy, as is the barrel clasp.
There is a slight imperfection on the side of the right wing; I believe it was made that way due to imperfections of the shell, but it's difficult to tell. Please check the pictures. This is a unique, one of a kind piece. The shell or mother of pearl really does look wonderful in real life; I wish the scanner could pick up the depth and beauty.
My mother used to frequent trading posts and flea markets many decades ago in northern Arizona, in her hunt for Native American and other treasures, jewelry and curiosities. She stopped buying after she turned 60, so everything has to be 1970s or earlier. This one, I believe, is one of the earlier pieces. I'm continuing to clean out boxes from my garage, whenever I get the energy, and finding some lovely things of hers.
Given the delicate nature of this special eagle, I intend to ship it as follows:
Wrapped in tissue and placed in a washed mint container (such as altoids). I'll check to make sure that there is no movement that can harm the eagle. I'll wrap the tin in a thick layer of bubble wrap, tape it, and then place it in a tyvek or other secure mailer.
If the thought of a mint tin bothers you, I'll ship it in a small cardboard jewelry box. But I assure you, this is safer because small boxes can still get crushed, and this is breakable. Nothing will crush that tin.
I ship the next day after receiving your verified Listia address, unless a weekend or holiday. I also fan anyone who fans me; I check once a week so please be patient. Thank you for viewing my listing.
