Mr. Elephant's breakfast time at the Dallas Zoo. This pachyderm stood still for quite a while, stuffing its mouth with food from its trunk. This gentle beast seemed to enjoy the attention it got from myself and my classmates as we sketched and pastelled him. This one is my first draft version.This is one of my dry media artworks. They are sometimes called "paintings" or "drawings", but the word "Pastel" is the only correct word. As a noun or verb.
Dry pastel (powdered pigment crayons) is my medium of choice. Unlike many traditional practitioners, I don't go for the delicate lightness of the smudgy artform. I love the bright, vibrant colors to capture the moment with a sense of electricity.
