so if you wake up in the middle of the night you don't even have to open your eyes, you just say "what time is it" that is pretty cool!

Nope, it can't hear anything - - - you have to press the talk button to hear the time - - you can still do that with your eyes shut, if you remember where the clock is located . . . :o)
