The listing, Vintage BeJewelled Mystic Eye Brooch has ended.
Unusual and gorgeous jewelled-eye brooch--never seen anything like it!:-) The iris is a warm rose-colored, raised dome (glass?) cabochon, and the eye is lined with rhinestones. The "lashes are faceted black stones. Gold-tone (brass?) settings and pin back. Excellent condition. Approx. 1 1/2 inches wide by 1 inch tall. Very difficult to photograph due to the brilliance of the stones (and my limited capabilities as a photographer:-).
Like I posted in response to another bidder, this would look FATASTIC worn on the back of a jacket or on the front of a hat:-) Extremely unique piece of jewelry that will definitely get you noticed!:-) Great conversation piece.
This is a really cool item...if it were silver I would've kept it (I don't look that great in gold). I found it in an out of the way place, and I almost got whiplash when I did a double-take after it "caught my eye"..it is VERY striking...and much more so in person(photos can't do it justice).
(I have a B.A. in Anthropology): The eye symbol is a very ancient talisman of protection (i.e. the "eye" of Horus, of the Egyptians, or the eye often depicted on sailing vessels, or on the middle-eastern "Hand of Fatima" or "Hamsa"(meaning "5". in Arabic--the number of the fingers on the hand). The Eye could represent the "All-Seeing" eye of a deity; a counterpoint to any giver of the "evil eye," etc... I could go on and on...:-)
Not to make another corny "eye" joke, but it REALLY "caught my eye" when I saw it the other day. If it would've been silver I would've kept it. I have an online store that specializes in weird/creepy books, etc. and I debated on where to list it, but I'm glad that I chose Listia--lots of nice folks around here:-)
Some cool news about me: My mom and I are part of the top 64 in Casey's Madness contest:-) I submitted my mom's photo (her going after one of the dogs' bones) and wrote a little tale about Casey's pizza being the only thing that keeps her from eating the neighbors (our family secret is that she's a "zombie").
