Up for auction is this beautiful Sterling Silver keepsake with a Mother of Pearl lid with a snap lock. Marked with Alpaca, Mexico and a very faint Sterling mark. Approximately the size of a quarter around and almost an inch tall. May have been used to hold teeth or first hair snippings.
UPDATE:Actually it's not "sterling silver", it is made of Alpaca Silver refers to an alloy that imitates sterling silver. It's a non-precious bright silvery-grey metal alloy is made up of copper, zinc and nickel and sometimes iron.
Alpaca Silver does NOT contain any real silver; it is just another name for Nickel Silver.
The term for this alloy in Mexico, Central America, and South America is Alpaca Silver rather than Nickel Silver.
The top is a beautiful Abalone Shell (not Mother of Pearl).
