thank you for answering.the way to test for bakelite is ,spray some 409 cleaner on a paper towel and then wipe what you think is bakelite.if the towel turns green it is bakelite.if it doesn't turn ,it isn't.you can also use awesome from the dollar store.spray like before but the towel will turn orange.you can use the metal polish simichrome as well.that will turn orange too.a lot of things look like bakelite but not many really are.i love the razor and so i don't care whether it is or isn't,i'll bid anywaythank you.

Is this a break-em razor? Where you have to snap a safety razor, I can't tell by your pics. Does it open like a butterfly or does the top screw on ? It's a nice razor , I use straight razors and safety razors , I've only heard of break-ems , never seen one

Sorry but I don't have an answer. It doesn't open nor screw on. I looks like the razor slides in from the side but I don't have one that fits. It does have INSERT KEY stamped on the head.

Yes if you've never used a safety razor or straight razor you are missing out ! It's a skill you have to learn but it is worth it

I have one of these. We found it in the basement of our 1907 Craftsman house. Mine is in much poorer condition, though. From what I remember of these razors, they were made from the 1930's through the 1960's. The one in the picture is from 1935 and has a Bakelite handle and gold electroplating on the head. Really cool!
