Can this be used for embroidery machines? I used to embroider by hand with floss so not used to the machines, just ordered one but will take up to 2 weeks for delivery so not sure yet what kinds of thread to use. Thanks.

Yes this is especially good for embroidery machines. What Kind of embroidery machine did you get? Have fun embroidering! You will also need to get stabilizers.

It's a Brother. I looked on Amazon but there were so many different stabilizers and in different sizes and weights so not sure.

There are three basic kinds of stabilizer 1. cut away, 2.tear away and 3. wash away. Generally cut away is the heaviest weight and wash away is the lightest. Are you going to be taking any classes? Go to a sewing shop, the dealer you got the machine from or one who services a brother. Ask lots of questions? Take notes? Come with a list of questions? Do not leave until you get your answers or they can refer you to someone who can answer them for you. Different fabrics work best with certain stabilizers and you will develop the stabilizer you like the best. I personally like a combination stabilizer a tear away/wash away. Always wash your fabric before embroidering to prevent shrinkage after you finish a project. My brother made this mistake and didn't wash some T-shirts before embroidering. Of course they shrank and it ruined the embroidery.

Thank you so much for all the info. Yes they have classes to help you learn the machine. I like to be prepared because this is all new to me. Learned to hand embroider 40 years ago (did I say that out loud?) so can't imagine being able to do it by machine. Was fun seeing the machine in action before ordering it. Really was hoping they were in stock but right after Christmas they were all out.

This is 40 weight thread. I would probably use something stronger.

A 35 or 30 weight would be good. I will be listing other threads and different weights in the future.
