Questions & Comments
I have a ton of questions LOL I have a plum tree, well 6 of them actually but one of them I was going to cut down. But I saw this tree along an old country road that has this vine all over it, it looks like it killed the tree, but it was quite beautiful with the vine all over it. So my question is in two parts. Will it successfully kill the tree? and how long before it reaches 20 ft +? I am thinking the tree is 20 to 30 ft tall, as you can see not a good Plum Tree. It no longer really produces (I moved into a farm house from the late 1800's, I am assuming it was planted at that time as it is the tallest, oldest, and straggliest of the plums) so either way, I was wondering if this would successfully cover it and look great at the same time, kinda like a living trellis. =)
Hi. Thanks for your interest. The Trumpet Vine will grow pretty fast but it is doubtful that it will cover the top of the tree. It will look like a living trellis, though. It won't strangle it to death like an ivy would. It will just grow up and around the tree. In my pic you can see that mine is growing around and through a Princess Spirea and it is still very healthy. It has grown there for several years, it self-seeds itself every year so I just let grow on it's own. Hope that helps but if you need anymore help, feel free to ask. Happy gardening and Good Luck bidding!! God Bless!!
