This is a lovely vintage scrimshaw ship pendant in gold tone setting,the ship appears to be etched into the white base, so looks like scrimshaw..... small bale to accommodate a chain, about 1 inch long with bale, in very good condition, looks new

Umm...well, when I looked closely with a magnifying glass it , the ship design appears to be etched into the white material rather then just applied.....is there any for sure way to tell? I am not an expert...........

Yes if you heat a needle and put the needle to a part of the pendant and it does not make a hole then it is real bone if it pokes a hole then it's plastic or resin :)

I would just hate to make a mark on the piece, I do think it is bone, it has a stone feel to it doesn't look like plastic
