Description

The listing, Giant White Bird of Paradise has ended.

This is a gorgeous plant that gets VERY large! Also known as The Travelers palm. The flowers are over a foot long and a beautiful blue and white in color. These can be started indoors and then moved outside once they have outgrown their containers. They need a sandy well-drained soil and should not be planted too close to the house or you will be. pruning constantly. They are a tropical plant and wont grown in colder climates. Bidder will receive 10 seeds from my backyard plant. Thanks for bidding!

They're super cool. You can see by the second pic that they grow in the shape of a fan. Must be sure to plant them right when putting in the ground. I have one that is at a 90 degree angle to the house and startling to lean. Not only am I constantly pruning.... But they're as big as a tree... I may have to take it down. However the other ones are gorgeous.... Great shade.

Do you think it would survive a zone 8?

What one last in that zone said she was going to do was have it as a houseplant in the cold months and on her front porch in summer. Apparently they can handle a hard freeze.. Will just lose a few leaves. In your zone they get about 8-12 ft tall. And won't really bloom. Here in south Florida they get 30-40 ft tall and bloom constantly. Even without the blooms they are an eye catching beautiful plant... I'm sure you would be the only house in your neighborhood to have one! Lol

I don't know what zone Iowa is. I know it can take some colder climates and even a hard freeze. However it may not bloom and will not be as tall as the ones here in Florida. They can definitely be house plants.... even if it doesn't bloom... It's still a very striking plant. Hope that kind of answers your question, and thanks for looking.
