Questions & Comments
This is a solid brass vessel ! The coating inside is Zinc or Tin. It is done that way to keep the brass taste out of the water being heated and to prevent corrosion. Copper vessels that are being used as an everyday utensil are also coated the same way. When you see this stuff without the coating inside it is made for decorative purposes only. I love the way this looks.
This is gorgeous!!!! I've used the old trick of shining brass quickly by using a little bit of ketchup on a paper towel. It won't take off any rust areas, but does shine up stuff quickly. In fact, I personally wouldn't use ketchup around any really bad spots (not that this has any as it looks perfect!) So, don't hesitate to buy it because you don't want to clean it! It can be cleaned in seconds!
I have the same teapot at home (in display in my kitchen). I bought it at my local thrift store. Very nice piece but agree with jheidamos, does not have cash value.
Beautiful!! f&w and agreed about the value, I thought we were on here to give things to others that we are done with and not be nit-picky about others items and what they are worth, I hear that soo much and if its free don't complain!!!
about the monetary value coversations... when you buy 24000 points for $40.00, that is money we spend on an item... soooo the bid right now would cost me $3?.00 right now!!! THAT'S what I'm talking about :) So you can't tell me it's ALWAYS free... yes if you place an item and u get points, then you bid on something for same # of points/or less... yes, then it is free :)
I've never bought points. Why do that when you can auction things off & get the points that way. I don't think I'll ever have to buy points. Simply put things up for auction that are worth the points & get them that way. I hate people that are so negative!!!
You folks talking about making tea with this beautiful knick-knack GET YOUR TAPE MEASURE OUT !! It is NOT made for making tea... period! First off brass is not to be used for preparing anything for human or animal consumption! Most brass alloys contain a percentage of lead. The percentage varies with the intended original purpose of the alloy. Forging brass [C377] runs about 2% lead. It is possible to "pickle" the surface of a brass container or fitment to remove the available lead from the surface layer of the brass. Also read that brass is a zinc/copper alloy, and I certainly wouldn't cook anything in it.
Jheidamos... If you don't want the item, why don't you just go away. You obviously have no idea of the reason for Listia?? ... This is a beautiful piece btw Molly :-)
Its very cool...I don't think it is solid brass ...although you didn't say it was. I just assumed it was solid brass but from what the inside looks like it must be not solid brass, although that doesn't matter because it is a beauty!! And I'd love to have this as a art piece...or as you say display or a decor item...very very pretty!!
TY, it is solid brass. Here is the test. If you take a magnet to what you think is solid brass and if the magnet sticks, the item is usually steel or cast iron, with brass plating. If the magnet does not stick it is solid brass. Hope this helps
