I'm still unearthing amazing items from the suitcase of my Wandering Grandfather, Honorious. He was a very Rogue Frenchman, that travled the World in search of adventure &collectibles much to the dismay of my Grandmother, Blanche. I do believe I have already told some of you about the Monkey! Ah..but that's another story~~

This amazing find was from his time in Italy. He was a Religious man & went to visit all the wonders of the Vatican & surrounding Chapels & Museums nearby. His vicarious nature often enabled him to go where other foreigners could not go~~

This heavy pin, has a very Secret Society vibe to it. Illuminati? Perhaps? Did the Pope wear this or one of his Cardinals or confidants?? Who knows?? Priests, perhaps??
The Crown with a Dove on either side of it is atop a Green enamelled/Gullioche background. I believe the VERY Ornate setting to be Brass with a Gold Wash, it's very dimentional & really stands out when pinned to a coat, cape or shawl. It measures 2.5" in diameter & has a rollover clasp, there are no markings on it at all, to aid in it's maker's identification or age.

I would like to suggest they are not dove...rather.... fleur de lis.
This is truly a very impressive item. I have exhausted myself attempt to source it and cannot. I have found things of interest bearing similar markings dating back to the 1600's. Nice auction.

I've been checking my Heraldry book. The crown looks like an English one worn for someone such as the Master of Diplomatic Corps. It has the crown but not the star. The Papal crowns matched the crown worn by the popes. It wouldn't be John Paul II. I am still looking and will see if I can find more . Love this one, I collect and sell vintage things like this.
