Swamp hibiscus (Hibiscus coccineus), also called scarlet hibiscus, is a fast-growing perennial flower hardy in U.S. Department of Agriculture hardiness zones 5 through 10. The plants grow between 4 and 8 feet tall, and have deep-green leaves similar to those of a maple tree. Bright red, 6-to 8-inch blooms appear in midsummer and continue to form until fall.
