Description

The listing, Garden Huckleberries has ended.

Garden Huckleberries. They are annuals, but produce a full crop in 3 months - pick them when the berries turn dull black and start to get a little soft. I usually just wait until after the first hard frost.

Start them indoors the same time as tomatoes and peppers. They look like blueberries, but can not be eaten raw, they must be cooked into pies and other desserts. They make a delicious syrup that you can use on ice cream and pancakes/waffles.

The best thing is that birds do NOT eat them, I never have to cover my crop. Once ripe, the berries will stay on the plant until you decide to pick them (rather than falling to the ground like blueberries). I've left the berries on the plant for weeks after being ripe without any problems.

don't see why not... They grow in the same type of climate as tomatoes/peppers/eggplant. So if you have good luck with those, these should grow fine for you.

I planted these for the first time last year, used several seeds and they all came up! So I had tons, lots of berries. The birds here must be hungrier than yours. I waited till after the first frost, went to pick them and had about two left! Lol! I guess maybe I'll get to try them this year! :))
