i belive it is cast iron that was silver plated, its an decoration that you'r suppose to hang above the door for good luck i belive it is an old wifes tale taht you hang it up and i willl bring you good luck

By the way, for good luck, you have to hang it the other way around (like this: U ) That way, it keeps the luck in it! I love these old superstitions!
