What you are bidding on vintage although I'm puzzled and I'm not sure exactly how old this is. It could be a baby bracelet it's old and dirty so I wouldn't advise putting it on your babyor some kinda napkin ring. It's great for the collector of such sort of items. If anyone knows I'd like some info. It is made in India. It's not stamped so I did the magnet test and it didn't stick and from what I heard that means it's silver. It has natural patina which adds to the character and value of this. When I first picked up this piece for resale I was told not to clean it off.
I am giving this 21 days for the nature of this find. It's silver and heavy the value of this in silver alone is probably worth a lot. Good luck bidding
Questions & Comments
My mom has been an estate liquidator for antiques, vintage and collectables for over 40 years. In the old days they used to take old silverware and bend them into different things. Most popular jewelry. I have also seen forks bent onto plate and frame racks for displaying. Very fun and cool.
I agree with Patsy, Ziggy and others.......napkin ring. In Google images search use these keywords "silver spoon napkin rings"... Very pretty example you have.
I just want to say just because it does not stick to a magnet doesn't exactly mean silver. It could be another alloy that us not magnetic although it is a good sign. It really does look like a napkin ring. It's a very nice and interesting piece.
So did you ever find out what it is? You stated on the 19th that you would have it checked and then I haven't seen an update or comment since It is very pretty though.. Have you measured it?
Try to get it tested so people will stop ridiculing you about it not being silver because it's not stamped. Foreign items do not always have stamps and neither do American items either. Things can still be silver without it saying it is.
After reading, DoctorInevitable's comment above, I have to agree it is a napkin ring. Check this link out and see what you think: http://tinyurl.com/lnmy3rr
Also, if it is made from an "antique" utensil the 925 or sterling stamp may have been on the piece that was removed. Like closer to the spoon or fork part of the utensil, because that is where those items are stamped
wow, a heck of a lot discussion over the value of silver... silver IS stamped silver...almost always, India does not import Silver anything to the USA, most likely it's a nickle alloy that doesn't tarnish. A "car" can be designated an "antique" vehicle for plating purposes after 20 years, the term ANTIQUE is "subjective" to the users P.O.V./timeframe Good morning ladies, it 4am so please forgive me for butting in to the conversation. God bless you all, Vince
I would avoid using the term STERLING, as it is NOT sterling, sterling would be stamped a KT weight on the inside, almost missed that. It is a nickle alloy napkin dinner rind, spoon wear as it's known. I have many examples, and yes, it is SILVER" in "COLOR".....have a great day...
Yes there seems to be much debate on this. Some say its a baby bracelet like there grandmother won in a baby contest. some say its a spoon ring. Some say the marking could have been cut off. Heck my head is spinning now. Lol. Jk. : D.....
Babies don't usually wear "heavy" bracelets, and most babies now days don't wear bracelets (because of choking hazard for the chain ones, and getting them caught on something for the more rigid ones). At least that's what I've been told by the new mommies! But I have seen sets of napkin rings just like your photos, so I'm thinking that's what it is (like you needed another opinion). LOL! Good luck with the auction -- it's a pretty little thing no matter what the use. :)
it's the Onieda wear style they knocked these out to match the popular silver-wear style for matching napkins holders. The commoner's rich mans table setting. Would mahe a great dog collar for a tea-cup chihauha!
It is a napkin ring. I have a set of four. It is vintage since the set I have belonged to my deceased grandmother that was 97 years old. And yes it would make a perfect bracelet for a child . I don't think it is silver since mine never tarnished. Beautiful detail
Love this, not sure what it is either, but I do know that vintage is 20+ years and antiques IS at least 100 yrs old. I'm curious where 50 yrs became the new antique..hmm lol anyways..f & w really like this one!
^^ totally true- older items weren't always stamped. Sometimes new aren't stamped. Antique is 50 yrs or older- not 100. It s a beautiful piece! Nice auction :)
I will find out exactly what this is and post tomorrow. Think it's a baby bracelet cause I got this from my vintage/antique bead/jewelry supplier. Appreciate you stopping. Good luck if you decide to bid.
I believe it is a napkin ring. And most likely not silver. If it were silver, chances are it would be stamped, not labled with a sticker. It is still a pretty interesting item tho!
Hmmmmm...... Think it's a toss up between a baby bracelet and a napkin holder...... Lol..... I think it's jewelry though when I think about it logically cause I got it from my vintage/antique bead supplier.
Jacquline1 I may be young but I know lots about this stuff it is indeed not real it fake a way to tell and the most common easy way is if it's real it will say 925 inside or on it that s or it will say sterling silver or just sterling it all means it is silver
