The 1938 through 1942 D versions of the nickel have the same metal composition as the 1946-2011 nickel, but are generally sold for a premium over their melt value due to rarity!

No, I have never cleaned it! Or anyone else, to my knowledge. I bought four rounds of old nickels, and this one was one of those. I think the flash makes it look cleaner than it really is. I got them about 8 years ago. It has literally been sitting in my nickel jar untouched.
