I don't believe so my friend and I cut crystal opal and lightning ridge opal alot u can look them up online and see some of there pieces there BEAUTIFUL and also grey opal and candy green apple opal thats really nice my favorite to get but hard to get nice neat pices is Harlequin opal . This piece was found in a jewelry box I got at an estate auction so I think it may be synthetic but like I said iam not sure sorry im not much help I will be putting some 100% authentic opal pieces on here some already in pendant form and some in rough shaped that are ready to be cut and made into whatever the buyer chooses so keep checking my auctions...:)

I uploaded some new pictures for you I hope these are better for you and also after looking underneath the glass eye that we use to look at your gems with its stone not plastic so but so as for it being so light weight its the way they cut it along with how thin they went down on the stone to take away the patch rough I imagine. I hope all this helps thank you and I will be chking out your page! :)
