Description

The listing, Nellie Moser Clematis 20 seeds FREE shipping has ended.

'Nellie Moser' is easy to grow, producing large, flat flowers 6 to 8 inches in diameter with distinctive, gleaming lilac bars on each petal. This clematis blooms from May to late June, with a second, less profuse bloom in mid-August. Planted in a shady spot, the cheery pink-and-mauve-striped blossoms last for weeks instead of days.

Noteworthy characteristics: Will grow mostly anywhere with support.

Care: Grow in fertile, well-drained, soil with abundant organic matter. Thrives in a sunny spot but will still bear colorful flowers and keep their delicate color longer in the shade. When growing it against a shady, north-facing wall or fence, paint the surface a light color to reflect sunlight back to the plant. Prune only if needed, as it blooms on the previous year's canes. Plant with the top of the root ball 3 to 5 inches below the surface and provide strong support.

Photos number 2 and 3 are my Nellies growing together with H.F. Young, a nice pink and blue combination!

I guess if I had to I could put a trelis up, but would like to know if you can grow in bunches like you have without trelis?

Clematis has a climbing habit. Not sure what you mean by bunches. All I have is small wooden sticks plus a 6 ft tall thin bamboo pole. I do train them as they will vine outward. I push the new growth back through the more established growth which has become "woody." In this manner, it sort of forms its own trellis. Photos 1 and 2 are mine from a couple of years ago. The other photos I found on the internet. I have seen clematis vining up a mailbox pole. It is always very pretty. I don't know why you couldn't get it to "clump" but just remember, it does grow as a vine so it needs to be kept off the ground a little bit and then trained to clump.

They do climb. I had them blooming in bunches on an 18" simple, 3-stick trellis when I first planted them but I added a bamboo pole and they climb up that very nicely. I have two varieties planted together and I like the effect. There is an error in my copy above. The first two photos are of my plants, not photos 2 and 3. Last summer the display was really spectacular - the photos are from a couple of summers ago.
