The THICK end of the stylus is used for CAPACITATIVE touchscreens for devices made by Samsung, Apple, HTC, Sony, LG and Amazon. This end will work on the majority of today's smartphones. Phones made by Samsung, iPhone, LG, and HTC are a few examples of compatible models.

CAPACITATIVE touchscreens operate by sensing conductive properties of certain objects, like your finger or the back (thick end) of this stylus. Many new touchscreens products today use capacitative screens.

The THIN tip is used on devices equipped with resistive touchscreens, which operate by sensing pressure on the screen. Some devices include the older Nokias (Nokia 5800) and HTC Windows Mobile Models.
