Now just what exactly is The Incredible Hulk: Ground Zero? I’ll tell you, it’s an amazing book!

When the issues from this book were first published, everything just seemed to come together at the right time. Peter David had been writing Hulk for not too long, and Todd Mcfarlane had 9 Hulk issues under his belt. Both added something totally different to the flagging Hulk book, rejuvenating it for the tired fans. David reverted Hulk back to his original grey skin, and Mcfarlane changed the Hulk’s appearance. Increasing his brow, and expanding his muscles. Mcfarlane’s art would prove so popular, a mere 5 issues into this book, he would go off to work on the Amazing Spider-man.


Now let’s get into this. The basic story is that Bruce Banner, Rick Jones, and Shield agent Clay Quartermain are travelling around the country in a high tech van looking for government stashed gamma bombs. On their tails are government agents, the Leader, and the gamma bomb spawned ‘Half-Life’. Throw in a brief appearance from Wolverine, and Bruce’s missing wife Betty, and you’ve got yourself a story! The Hulk is now grey, which means he is no-where near as strong as the green Hulk, he can actually be hurt now. He can be killed, which makes you root for him a little bit more. Also, there’s no more of that dont make me angry stuff, Bruce Banner transforms every night by the glow of the moon, and the Hulk also retains a large part of his intelligence, so be prepared for lots of witty Hulk wise-cracks.
