Description

The listing, "organic" Siberian Iris seeds has ended.

Harvested from my "organic" garden last fall.

About 2.5 ft tall at maturity.

These lovely purple flowers are perennial. Growing beautiful green bladelike foliage. The bloom time is short but spectacular. With perhaps 3 flowers per stalk. (Hotter microclimates force a more synchronous bloom. Cooler microclimates produce longer / staggered bloomtime. )

They like well drained acid soil of pH 6-7 .
They also like a few inches of mulch in full sun to keep roots cool. Drought resistant once established.

They will not bloom the first year after planting seed. But will spread more each consecutive year, reaching their a peak after 3-4 years. They will need to be divided to remain beautiful after 5 years.

you get all you see in the palm on my hand in the picture, packaged in a handmade recycled envelope.

I usually do as well...never occurred to me that you could plant from seed. how do would I get seed from the plants I already have?

Just wait till fall there should be some large brown ed seed pods on top of the stalks, They do pretty well at self seeding, but if you wanted to plant new ones in a totally different locale, you can collect the pods and when they dry they open naturally, peel them open and you have lots of seed! They can be sprinkled in the new location in the fall - since they like to freeze for a while before germinating. or you can collect them and put them in your fridge or freezer for a couple weeks before planting.

I really like them too. I wish i could send the already established plants, but They're very heavy, with all the soil... I have literally hundreds of these plants.

****** I have used iris seed i have collected and natural spread to generate a large mass of these flowers in my yard over the last 10 years . If these seeds for some reason don't sprout for you, I can send more in the fall. I'll have thousands of seeds then. *****
