Description

The listing, World War II V-Mail Form has ended.

During WWII, people were encouraged to write their letters to military overseas on V-mail forms. The letter would be photographed and the film containing hundreds of letters would be shipped overseas where letters would be printed and distributed to the troops thus saving valuable cargo space for war materials. The form is genuine from WWII and bears place for censor to put stamp indicating nothing classified or could help the enemy was included in the letter. The last photo shows a V-Mail poster from World War II but it is NOT included in the auction and for information purposes only. The auction is for the V-mail form illustrated in the first two pictures only! Many a soldier learned of births, passing of family members, news from home, and even an occasional "Dear John" letter. This is a great piece of history for the stamp collector, World War II collector or postal history collector. Please enlarge to see front and back of the form that the winner will receive.
Questions & Comments

I found several unused V-mail forms in my mother's estate. My father worked on Al-Can Highway in Alaska and other relatives were serving in AF in England, Navy in South Pacific and Army in Italy and she wrote to them often using forms like this one. At wars end, most of the forms went to the scrap heap and forms actually used after being photographed for shipment overseas were destroy.

Finding old sent V-Mail forms is not all that hard but finding unused ones has gotten much more tricky. I learned at wars end, millions of left over forms were chopped up to make insulation for houses and buildings and more were dumped in landfills.
