Heirloom seeds are easy to grow and collect seeds for next generation. Allow a few plants to flower which then turn to seed. Allow seeds to dry on plant before collecting.

Three or four plants yield plenty of fresh basil for a family of four. 12 Plants will yeild a generous amount for pesto!

Many gardeners use basil as pest repellent. Basil is a wonderful comapanion plant to most other plants. Dry soil stunts its growth. Try to always keep moist.

Pinch off the blooms as they appear. If your plants get away from you to the point where they make seeds and stop growing, shear off the top third of the stems and fertilize with a liquid fertilizer such as fish emulsion or water soluble 20-20-20. NEVER cut back too far down the stem where stems are woody, or the plant won’t sprout back.

You can dry basil leaves, but freezing it or using it in vinegars best preserves basil’s flavor. It also flavors oils and pesto; keep oils refrigerated. You can also keep cut stems fresh for a few days by putting the cut ends in water just like a cut flower. They will add a fresh basil fragrance to the air.

I will ship internationally. Please forward shipping information for calculated shipping costs. Be sure to check with your horticultural customs agent regarding importing seeds to your country. International shipping fees to be paid via PayPal.com only.

Plant rows of herbs between vegetables. They really attract the bees. Herb companion plantingis also an idea. Chamomil is wonderful for tea but, you can also brew a batch to feed your houseplants. They love it.

It sounds strange but, planting chives at the base of a rose or tomato plants will deter aphids. The herb borage is also wonderful to deter aphids from tomatos.

Basil is a natural insecticide if you have mosquitos and flies. Plant some potted basil wherever you sit and lounge outside.

Just go to books.google.com and type in a subject and you can read books for free. It's a great online library that is free! Here's a lovely book to read:

"Rodale's Illustrated Encyclopedia of Herbs" By Claire Kowalchik, William H. Hylton, Anna Carr is a wonderful read. I often refer to it for companion planting.

I also enjoy "Carrots Love Tomatoes: Secrets of Companion Planting for Successful Gardening" By Louise Riotte
