The listing, Yellow Crook Neck and Raven Zucchini Summer Squash has ended.
20 Cucurbita pepo, Yellow Squash seeds (crooked neck Golden Summer variety) and ten Raven Zucchini. I have found that I can feed my family of four with two plants of each, but I am always passing it around, so I grow about eight plants of each (which is only because I have the room in my garden). If this auction gets over 200 pts, I am going to include a bonus of a few Patty Pan as well. Patty Pan is a crowned light tinted (Begining's Green is the variety) pan squash, which is amazing steamed or even pan fried. My children andI enjoy it raw on a bed of lettuce with goddess dressing. It is my fav! Specify if you are interested in the bonus WHEN YOU SEND YOUR ADDRESS. I can trade the bonus squash seed out with something else which we can then discuss. Both the Yellow and Raven are amazing prolific with heavy germination. This is enough seed to sprout plants which will easily feed your whole street.
As with squash, build an 8” deep mound of soil, indented so that water drains to the center. Leave 3 feet of space between the mounds. Place several seeds ½” deep at different locations around the mound. When the seedlings emerge, thin to 3 plants per mound. When the true leaves appear, you can thin to one or two healthy plants per mound. I start my seeds in a pot and transplant sprouts before the roots become well established to one plant per mound. These like considerable heat, so any horse manure over a month old or cow over two months is great to make your mound with. I just pile out a five gallon bucket of horse compost (my favorite) and hoe a little dirt in, but not too much. Put the sprout in the middle and watch it take off! Keep moderately watered and watch for borers and beetles. These are heavy stem feeders like tomatoes, so piling it on top after the plant is established works absolute miracles. You will be the envy of your neighborhood, ad these plants are also beautiful!
