The listing, Vintage Morpho Butterfly Sterling Necklace & Earring Set has ended.

Really unusual heart-shaped earring and necklace set.

Tropical scene is hand painted on Morpho Blue butterfly wings. The colors are iridescent and beautiful, but hard to capture with the camera. Depending on the light, blue, purple and gold show in the butterfly wing background (you may be able to see the wing texture in the photos).

Earrings are screw backed. Necklace is marked "Sterling" on the pendant back and clasp. Earrings are marked on the screw fasteners. The silver on the necklace (chain mainly) is darkly tarnished and needs serious cleaning. The clasp on the necklace (very pretty!) works and the screws work on the earrings.

According to my research, these items were made primarily in the 1930's and 1940's. If anyone knows a different era, please leave a comment so I can stay "honest".

This set was part of my grandmother's collection; they are beautiful and perfect for a vintage jewelry collector.

Thank you! In Pic 1, the wavy look to the background is actually the butterfly wing. I never knew that they had jewelry painted on butterfly wings until I started researching these!

They are heart shaped. The backgrounds inside the hearts are made of butterfly wings, hand painted with the tropical scene. This gives them a beautiful iridescent look.

Ebay has the vintage Morpho butterfly jewelry - I found a necklace very similar to the one in this auction, but without matching earrings. I always try to do some research on my grandmother's jewelry because I don't know that much about it and want to make sure I'm giving good honest info. She acquired most of it before I was born or when I was a small child.
