John Wayne and Cabby Hayes are on opposite sides of the law for a change in this
atmospheric Western. Lawman Bandy Bowers (Wayne) stumbles onto a barroom
full of corpses, and is locked up by a Sheriff who thinks he's caught the killer redhanded.
Marvin Black (Hayes) poses as the hunchbacked Matt the Mute to learn the location of the $30,000 concealed in the bar by its late proprietor. Sprung by the latter's grieving niece, Randy pretends to play along with the gang, whose underground hideout is rigged with dynamite, before Black meets his just reward in a satisfyingly tense conclusion.
