Peonies are bare-root tubers with three to five eyes. Easy to grow. Dig a hole, about two feet deep and two feet across in well-drained soil in a sunny spot.Set the root so the eyes face upward on top of the firmed soil, placing the root just 2 inches below the soil surface. Provide some shade in southern states because of heat of the sun. If the soil is heavy or very sandy, enrich it with compost.Add about one cup of bonemeal into the soil. Water well until established.Make sure the peony's eyes (buds) should be no deeper than 1-1/2 to 2 inches below the soil line! Otherwise, it won't flower.Spare the fertilizer. Work the soil well before you plant, mixing in a little fertilizer, and that should be enough. Beautiful flowers that last up to 10 days once they start opening. You'll love the fragrance of the blooms.
Sorry, thought I'd add a few tips for people bidding. They are a very beautiful flower. I also have several and have raised many over the years. Once they grow one and it blooms, they will want more. They have a big flower. Be sure to dead head after it blooms. Good Luck.

They are extremely fragrant, if You don't mind all the ant. They need the ants to open their buds. They are beautiful flowers !!!

Ants have to be around them to for them to bloom well the ants will be on the buds and pee on them and that will make the blooms open up and i use a good fertilizer around mine like bloom buster once when they began to come up well.Just giving some advise to help .Ants are a good thing around these plants so dont kill the ants if you wish to cut a bloom you can bring in and wash away any ants that may be on them .I have several diff ones i have had them for many many years and my mother taught me about the ants thing.
