Anna Viktorovna lives in Moscow with her young son and her father, a poet who lives in disgrace for his dissident views. Her husband is an officer in the Red Army. She meets Alexey Bulyagkov, a Russian official who is married and nearly twice her age. The two later become lovers. Their relationship becomes threatened when the KGB asks her to spy on Alexey for suspected disloyalty to the state. The book follows Anna's journey as she tries to navigate her life, family, and love, through the turmoil of the state of Russia. (I greatly paraphrased what it is on the book jacket. Lol)
