this actually is a 1996 Fleer card so its a couple years after his rookie cards

You're correct about the card but it's sold everywhere as a RC because 1996 was Jeter's 1st full year in the majors. It could be argued that his 1992-1995 cards were all pre-rookie/draft cards even though he wore the Yankee's uniform in some of them. He was promoted to the Yankees in 1995 when Fernandez got hurt but he only lasted 13 games before being sent back to the minors. At years end it was announced the Jeter would be the starting shortstop in 1996.
