Plant lily seeds in the late winter or spring for blooming in spring the next year or two years hence. Plant either outdoors after the last hard frost has passed and the soil is thawed and easy to work, or start the seeds indoors and then transplant them out when weather permits. Start seeds indoors in late January, February and March; them them at a temperature between 60F and 70F in barely moist soil. Whether planted indoors or out into the garden soil, most fast germinating lily seeds will germinate in 14 days to three weeks, though some varietals will take considerably longer. When shoots and cotyledon leaves begin to appear, feed the seeds with a weak water and fertilizer solution such as MiracleGro or fish emulsion, following the manufacturer's directions and halving the dose of fertilizer. By the four-week marker true lily leaves will begin to appear and continue emerging in three- or four-week cycles. If started indoors, transplant the lilies outside into the garden soil or containers after all danger of frost is past--from March to early June depending on your area's climate. Water regularly throughout the growing season and feed once each month until late summer. Mulch around the young plants to keep down competing weeds and preserve the soil moisture
