OK... So we just returned from a day trip to Mammoth Cave, which is not too far off from where we live... We had a GREAT day there which started out with a surface tour called the Cedar Sink Hike... It takes about an hour & a half & is a trail walk from the top of Joppa Ridge down to what they call a cave window, where you can see water which flows out & back inside the cave.
Then after a break for lunch, & some off time wandering on our own we went underground on a tour called the Violet City Lantern Tour which took about 3 hours. It is almost indescribable in the beauty you get to see ALL only by lantern light. We walked over 6 miles all together & went up &/or down almost 500 stairs. It was physically tough but so worth it... Now for the cool part, I found the most AWESOME piece of white marble today, which has been super-smoothed by water... I took several pics to show the various sides & angles. It has some awesome colors through it that the pics don't do justice with. I placed a quarter on it to show size, & 1 pic on scale, it weighs 4.8 ounces... If you have ANY kind of rock or mineral collection, or like caves, then you don't want to miss THIS one folks... Mammoth Cave is the WORLD'S longest known cave system & was 1st investigated 4000 years ago... I am going to do something special for anyone who has wanted to visit this awesome place, but has not, or someone who has & has memories perhaps... I am starting this at 100 credits, to give everyone an equal chance at it... Please view ALL the pics, then cast your bids... I thank everyone for looking...

Very nice Piece of marble, Angel. I went to a cave in northern Alabame recently, it is truly something to see. It was also fun watching the southerners "chill out" in a 60 degree cave when it was close to 90 degrees outside. My northern butt Loved every second of it!!! LOL I brought home a piece of granite that had fallen from the cieling, with permission of course, and it sits in my cabinet with my other specimens!!... just might have to add this one too!!

Now see there, it would be right at home with your granite... I hear ya on the temperature thing, it is a lot cooler 250 feet below ground... LoL I am OK with it, but I am still a warm-blooded critter from California, so I adore basking on the surface too... I sound like a lizard... Giggle Give me a heat lamp & I am happy !!!

Oh how I envy your ability to go caving, (spelunking) We use to go all the time, have been in many Ruby falls, Bat cave, Raccoon cave, And many others all through the Carolina's and Tenn. But have never made it to Mammoth cave. And now can't go anymore as I am in a wheelchair :(. So I will most certainly be bidding on this one, I can live vicariously through you, lol! Good luck

I understand... I had a hard time making it through, due to my disabilities, it was a tough day, but it was worth it... I will keep going back till I can't anymore... Thanks so much for your bid & comment... I really do appreciate it... This will be the 4th cave I have gone through... Been to Mammoth before, plus caves in Missouri, Maryland & California... I just LOVE exploring !!! :-)

It sure is a very different & cool piece... I wasn't sure I wanted to list it, but I found a bunch while I was there, & this was just the biggest one, so I kept the little ones for making my jewelry & went ahead & listed this one... :-)

Oh.. I LOVE the Ozarks, also a BEAUTIFUL place to visit, Camdenton is a little less than 3 hours from where I used to live in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Were you married there? Or just took a trip to visit? There is more onyx in that area of the country... Well, I am very happy you made it to my auction, good luck if you decide to bid... :-)

LOL... That would be AWESOME... I think they sell marble slabs for that... not a chunk like this... Giggle, but it probably costs a small fortune, more than granite for sure, & that ain't cheap... My dream kitchen is all granite on counters & island with it's own sink, for prep, & ALL stainless steel appliances, but then that will be AFTER winning the lottery... *smile*

The pics did not show the little places with color REAL well, except where it is marbled on a couple of the sides, but there is small places of color in it though, looks bluish in some places or gray... Shows best in pics 4 & 5... :-)

Yes, there were a LOT of smaller pieces, but this was the ONLY one I even seen around there that was this size... :-) It would even make a GREAT paper weight !!! :-)

I love it. that must have been an amazing trip, so jealous. I am not able to do those kind of trips now but so wanted to dig for diamonds in Arkansas and do the caverns. Lucky girl. Looks like a piece of heaven.

It was AWESOME !!! This is the 2nd time we have been there for a tour since moving to KY, but I really enjoyed this time better than the 1st one, A LOT more interesting stuff this time, plus, this is the 1st time I actually FOUND something there... I wanna go back & do the Wild Cave Adventure, which is the hardest & is 6 hours (personal goal) :-)
