The auction is for...2 G...of Heirloom Fordhook Swiss Chard seeds,..(enough to grow 65 plants!)...Fresh for 2014....I grow it every year in my organic garden for its Tasty and Nutricious leaves and leafstalks....Swiss Chard prefers cool weather but will last through the summer heat without bolting,(going to seed)....it requires thinning though other wise is relatively care free...A great Edible landscape plant it likes the sun and some partial shade in the hot summer.....pefers a deep rich fertile ,well drained soil with a PH of 6.0 to 7.0 and needs consistent moisture to grow large...seeds germinate between 40 and 95 degrees F. with the optimum temp. of 85 degrees...sprouts in about 7 to 10 days...(if you save seed the seed will stay viable for about 4 years if stored properly),...plant 2 to 3 weeks before the last frost...sow seed about 1/2 to 1 inch deep in rows about 18 to 24 inches apart...Swiss Chard seed produces more than one plant therefore thinning is required for a nice crop...thin plants 6 to 12 inches apart and begin harvesting when the leaves are of a useable size by removing a couple leafs from each plant, (avoid damaging the growing point in the center of the plant)..or cut the plant about 1 to 2 inches above the soil so it can grow back again..I can tell you that grilled tomato with mozzarella wrapped in Swiss Chard leaves is a Healthy , Tasty treat!...This is a Good Pick for the home gardener...Ships Free to the USA,lower 48..Thanks for Viewing and Best of Luck!
