I fully intended to bid on this piece for a fillet knife for my brother. This is all I can find. Along with bible scholars not knowing what gopher wood was. Is this what you have. Sideroxylon lanuginosum[3] is a shrub or small tree of the family Sapotaceae. It is native to the Sun Belt and Midwest of the United States[4] as well as Northeastern Mexico.[1] Common names include Gum Bully, Black Haw, Chittamwood, Chittimwood, Shittamwood, False Buckthorn, Gum Bumelia, Gum Elastic, Gum Woolybucket, Woolybucket Bumelia, Wooly Buckthorn, Wooly Bumelia, Ironwood and Coma.

I was more asking for info so I know how it will hold up to water, hardness and such. Stabilized/plastisized is not exactly a redeeming quality for me.
