i have come across a rather large LOT of these 2-cent Washington stamps.

While i have knowledge about the coil variety, how can i recognize / grade
other varieties ? i just might be looking at THIS US#500 in my hands right
now.

All those Washington's are VERY HARD to identify....I think you really need a stamp book as there are tiny variations. The ones I am selling, I am using the numbers that I bought them as and as they are in my album.....Some of the stamp catalogs, like from Mystic stamp company, show you an enlargement of the variation....so you might order a catalog online from Mysticstamp.com (it might be Mysticstamps.com)..
and the toll free number is 18004337811...the catalog is free but I frankly don't know what you can do from India......but you might give that a try. Sorry I can't help more.
