To help determine whether or not something is gold-filled, it depends upon where it was made. U.S.A. 14k gold-fill must be hallmarked as such by law (regulated by the Federal Trade Commission). It is created by forming a hollow tube of 'solid gold' then 'filling' it with molten brass before binding together with pressure. It has at least 100 times more gold when compared to plated. Other country's' metals aren't regulated by anyone and they can stamp or call metal anything they want!

That's ok, not many people know unless they are in the jewelry business! Prior to my education in jewelry artistry, I thought the only thing my daughter could wear was stainless surgical steel or solid gold due to her skin allergies. She was delighted to learn that she could finally wear more gold, haha!
