Description

The listing, Federal Reserve Note Currency Star Note C02592596* has ended.

I started collecting these circulated Star Notes a while back. As you can see from the photo it is a well circulated bill, but still pretty cool.

In case you've never seen or heard about star notes before, here is what they are. (To the best of my knowledge)

At the mint as bills are being stacked sequentially by serial number they are visually inspected for smudges, rips, tears or anything that would cause them to be discarded. Instead of allowing a gap to exist in the sequence of the bills, a Star Note is inserted into the stack.

That way a stack of 1 dollar bills that starts with XXXXXX000 still ends at XXXXXX099, the star note is the placeholder!

If you look through 1000 bills you'd be lucky to find 1 or 2, so they're pretty rare.

Here's the way my auctions are going to work from now on. If you have a feedback rating of 5 or less, or negative feedback of any kind and you win my auction I will simply refund your credits and re list the item. I'm tired of the scammers. So if you fall into that category don't even bother bidding.

Additionally, I am charging $1.00 Shipping on everything I sell until further notice.PayPal only. Once the item has been shipped and the auction has closed with appropriate feedback left I will return the $1.00 via PayPal.

(Unless I have done business with you before, in which case shipping will be free).

Again I'm tired of the scammers, I have quite a few very nice higher end items I have been itching to list, but I'm scared of getting burned. The aforementioned criteria are the only way I can think of to not get ripped off.

Until Listia institutes some sort of seller protection I have invented my own. I may have been born at night, but it wasn't last night. :)

God Bless,
Chris

if you look at my current beat ta sh-t indian head penny auction you'll see where a little 13 year old gangster tried to screw with me. He told Listia I never sent him the coin he won. That auction was 6 weeks ago. But here he is bidding on another one of my auctions !! Kid's been swearing and rude with me. What he doesn't know I sent his parents a letter explaining it all and asked them to look at his collection to see if my coin is there. If I pulled that crap as a kid, I seriously would not have been able to walk for a month. I'm rambling, sorry, 3 am, can't sleep.

Use the dollar (actually about 80c) to pay for delivery confirmation/tracking and let the buyer know you will be doing that, ideally in the description. If the scammers know you are going to use it they are less likely to try it on with you. I have had no-one claim they have not received an item since I started doing this on all my auctions.

Thanks for the info about star notes. i am new to collecting and did not know that..

We were all new once, just 2 months ago for me as well. People sold and bought from me when I had less than 5 feedback or else I wouldn't still be here! lol
Probably I'll just go back to charging 75 cents for shipping, I had no problems then.

and great idea with the listing rules. I think I may institute a similar policy.

I got no problem myself putting down a deposit. In just about any other forum but this one I would say go for it. But you know, this is kinda a strange place. With the feedback, I think I would target the people with little history. The scammer pukes tend to show their true morals pretty quickly. So maybe something as simple as they must have their trusted seller badge and maybe if not then they must put up a deposit. That would probably either scare them off or keep them honest and at the same time it would not cause any friction with the regulars. Just givin' you my thoughts. Probably worth what you paid me for 'em.

Perhaps I should bend a bit on the feedback, because scammers can ,and do leave negative feedback for the people they scam to make themselves look innocent.

Yeah I hear ya. It's not a perfect system but it beats the alternative. I had 2 people with 2 or less feedback claim they never received an item that I had sent all within 1 week. Plus a third took my credits and never sent an item that I won. I don't want those people bidding anyways. As far as the $1.00 goes, consider it a good faith deposit. I'm not interested in trading with anyone who isn't willing to loan me a dollar for 7 days. Are you?

BTW, you guys have taught me a ton. I have seen star notes on my spending money in the past, but I never knew how they came to be. Now I know. I remember going to the bank as a kid with my mom. Her pat joke to the tellers was "Can I get some samples please"

believe me, I know what your talking about. I am not sure how well your new policy will work for you. I see issues. I will explain. Excluding every person with any kind of neg. feedback will significantly lower your pool of possible customers, which ultimately will lower your sale price. Not to mention the huge # of people that have received neg. feedback undeservedly who would also be excluded from your auctions, which will also lesson your customer pool. Then the dollar, hmmm..., I like that except it will probably put a bad taste in some peoples mouth and they will spite themselves and not bid because of it. Granted you do not want to go out and have a beer with such types, but you do want them to at least drive up the prices of your auctions. You see what I'm talking about ?? Just me thinking out loud.

What we really need is a forum for Listia sellers, and maybe a chat feature. It would be great if we could actually compare notes (as sellers) in real time and put our heads together to make Listia even better.
